Tannhäuser German Shepherds

My grandparents had German Shepherd Dogs their entire life and passed their love and passion of the breed on to my mother and me. I was raised with my grandparents German Shepherd dogs and our family German Shepherds and now I proudly carry on the tradition of the German Shepherd Dogs in my family.

From as far back as I can remember, I have always been around or owned a German Shepherd Dog. Above are a couple photos of me as a child at my grandparents cabin with one of their German Shepherd dogs. I have a GREAT love and admiration for the breed that started at a very young age and there lies the deep roots of my passion for the the breed!

My dogs MUST have my attention and be part of the family. I can not give the amount of individual time that each dog needs, if I have too many. My litters are bred after researching and looking for the best possible match for my females, so each litter I breed is carefully planned. I do not breed to produce puppies, each breeding is done for me because I keep puppies from each litter. Of course I can not keep them all so the remaining puppies are placed into fantastic companion homes. People who inquire about my dogs and breeding program may be seeking a German Shepherd Dog for a variety of different purposes. I hope that the information provided here will excite you about the possibilities of owning a Tannhäuser German Shepherd.

I am not a commercial kennel; that is, I do not breed dogs for the purpose of turning a profit. I work and do not expect my dogs to earn my living! I am dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the breed, to combining only the most outstanding animals from the foremost bloodlines from Germany. I base each breeding on the desire to improve the overall quality of each generation, selecting the best possible breeding partners for my females, sparing no expense to provide for the temperament, health, longevity, intelligence and conformation in the resulting puppies.
Because my dogs are home-raised, not mass-produced, they are all part of the family. I have very close interaction with my puppies from birth and am able to tell you about each one of their personalities. German Shepherds are intelligent, sensitive, people-oriented dogs that do not reach their potential without proper stimulation. Tannhäuser German Shepherd puppies are provided with the kind of start in life that gives a basis for reaching their full potential as companions or competitors.

Because of my commitment to my puppies welfare, it is extremely important to me that my puppies spend their lives in wonderful homes, once they leaves my care. For this reason, potential buyers should be prepared to answer questions about their lifestyle and why they want a German Shepherd Dog. Any puppy or dog of my breeding MUST be returned to me if they are not wanted. I don't want any of my puppies to end up in shelters where they may be euthanized. I also do not want my puppies or dogs moving from home to home.

The German Shepherd Dog is not a breed for everyone. They can have high energy levels and are a natural working dog, and since the average American no longer really needs a dog to herd sheep all day, it requires a dedicated dog owner to provide the required amounts of exercise and attention to keep a shepherd happy and healthy. German Shepherd Dogs should have a "job" to do such as tracking, obedience, schutzhund or agility. These are some of the fields in which my dogs have succeeded, and this is when they are the most satisfied. Even if you want your dog to be a family pet he or she must still have formal obedience training to be a proper canine good citizen. Your puppy is learning 24 hours a day, whether you choose to be part of the process or not...remember we all create our own monsters.

My adult dogs who are used for breeding have the following qualifications:

  • Shutzhund titled
  • Breed surveyed under a German Körmeister
  • Over two years of age
  • Have been certified free of hip dysplasia (either through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, or through the German 'a' stamp program if imported from Germany).
  • Elbows are also certified to be normal and free of Elbow dysplasia
  • Hearts and Eyes are certified
  • All dogs are tested for DM (Degenerative Myelopathy)

Puppies come with the following:

I feel nutrition is very important, therefore I feed a high quality Holistic dog food, FROMM Adult and Puppy GOLD established in 1904! Every bag and can of FROMM has NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers or by products, and naturally preserved! My dogs love the duck, chicken, lamb, whole eggs and Wisconsin cheese. Enhanced with probiotics to aid digestion and salmon oil for a healthy coat. FROMM makes for a truly complete nutritional package for my dogs health. I also feed to all puppies and nursing and pregnant females, fresh goats milk and fresh meat.

I have been involved in Schutzhund and breeding since 1995. Of course, my dogs speak for themselves, and I invite anyone who is seriously interested in learning more to call for an appointment to visit.

Thank you for your interest in my dogs!
